Malik has been an active member of city and a patron of the arts for several years. Raised among the Rashid he met a girl named Khalida. He fought for her hand and ultimately won the hand of the artist. Unfortunately she died shortly after their engagement was announced, though the details were kept away from public knowledge, most assumed it was a spurned lover. Malik nearly died the day his love did, cut open badly he barely survived the encounter and now has a deep, ugly scar to remember that day by. He devoted himself to his work with a merciless purpose, though he remained fairly unknown.
Then he went into the sewers with an expedition and never came back. After a week most presumed he was dead and his effects sold off. It was a surprise to everyone when he reappeared three years later, just after the end of Rokugan's Destroyer War. He quickly made contacts, allies, and began working his way up in the ranks of the Dahabi in a way he had not before. His friendly, if blunt, manner, has won him several friends, and not long after he returned he managed to break away from his family's usual business and opened up an art shop where he sells older paintings to collectors as well as serve as a middle-man to those wanting a painting done and looking for a good artist.
